Stage Cue Notes #1

This is the first installment of important notes written especially for parents. Read and enjoy!

Cast Parents,

Rehearsals are going very well for our show! The kids are are really picking up the lines, music, and even dance very quickly. We are having an absolute BLAST! I am sending you this letter to make you aware of several things regarding our show and production. I am asking that each of you prayerfully consider how you can be a part of the production process. Your students need your help in order to make this show a success!

JOIN A PRODUCTION TEAM!!!

We are in need of several production teams in order to make this year’s show successful. Here are the different teams and opportunities available for you to consider and join:

Set Building/Construction Team (Director: Mr. Steve Schultz)
If you are handy with a hammer and enjoy building unique things and working with your hands, this is the team for you!!! We are looking for about 10 people to help us out.

Costume Design/Sewing Team (Director: Mrs. Betsy Cook)
If you have a sewing machine, or just enjoy working with material and costuming, we NEED your help! We have a lot of costumes to prepare in a short amount of time. We need about 10 ladies to help with this team.

Meal/Snack Team (Director: Mrs. Sheri Visscher)
If you enjoying working in the kitchen and preparing food, our cast is ready to enjoy EATING your food! We will need several people to prepare snacks and even meals during the 2 weeks of shows. Contact Sheri Visscher if you are willing to make food for us. We will also need 2-3 ladies to help set out the food and make sure that the cast is fed during showtimes.

Publicity/Program Team (Director: To Be Determined)
If you enjoy promoting events, talking to people, or designing advertisements, we need people to help us get the word out about our show! We are also looking for someone to head up this team and make sure things get done. This team would include creating and preparing the program for the show.

Ticket Sales/Souvenir Team (Director: To Be Determined)
If you are familiar with computers and sales, we need your help selling tickets and keeping track of our sales. Most of the work for this team would be done at the door of the show each performance making sure tickets are sold in a timely fashion. We are also looking for someone to head up this team to make sure things are getting done.

Stage/Auditorium Team (Director: Mrs. Diana Edwards)
If you enjoy the thrill of live theater, we need your help with ushering for the shows and even some backstage excitement to make sure things are moving and progressing as they should. We are also looking for a Head Usher to oversee other student ushers and make sure everyone gets to their appropriate seats.

All of these teams are vitally important in a theater production. I would STRONGLY encourage all parents of cast members to get involved in some way to help support your students in their endeavors. Please consider where your gifts would best be used and let us know!

Chicago Trip for Winterim 2008!

Your students have probably already been talking about our special trip for Winterim, but I wanted to make you aware of what is coming up so you can be “in the know”!

We are taking a special trip to see Wicked the Musical in Chicago, IL. In case you haven’t heard about this show, it is the back story to the Wizard of Oz. It explores the relationship between Glinda the Good, and Elphaba . . . or better known as the Wicked Witch of the West. The show is appropriate for all ages and great fun with lots of humor, amazing music, a glorious cast, intriguing storyline, and spectacular visuals! We took our drama students to see it a couple of years ago and had a blast. Surprisingly enough, the show is still running in Chicago on an open run because of sold out performances since it started about 3 years ago! If your student was one of the few that went with us in the past, you may wonder why they should go again. The main reason would be that we are going to take a behind-the-scenes tour with several of the cast members and the students will get an inside look at how the show, and really any Broadway show works. It will be a great educational time for our students.

All cast members are invited to go (including 5th graders at the parent’s discretion) and we even have room for about 5 more adult chaperons to join us. We will NOT be spending the night in Chicago so it will be a late night getting back to Holland. Here are the details for the trip:

WHEN: POSSIBLE DATE, Wednesday, January 16

COST: $25 per student/plus money for food. This will cover us getting some nice seats and the special tour before the show. Students will need money for possible snack in the afternoon and supper that evening. One large one topping pizza at Giordano’s that feeds 3-4 people is $20.

Behind the Emerald Curtain

DETAILS: We will leave after lunch and head to the Windy City, stopping for a snack along the way (fast food). Our behind the scenes tour, “Behind the Emerald Curtain” begins at 5:00 pm (Chicago time) and lasts about 1 hour. Students will get a close-up look at the inward workings of the show including costumes and set pieces. After the tour we are planning to have supper at the World Famous Giordano’s Chicago Pizza at about 6:00 pm (Chicago time). The show will begin at 7:30 pm (Chicago time) and lasts about three hours. At about 10:30 pm (Chicago time) we will leave and head back to Holland planning to arrive around 3:00 am (Holland time).

I know that makes for a very late night which is why I am leaving it up the parent’s discretion whether or not your student goes on the trip. I will ask students to bring a pillow and blanket and have required quiet time on the bus ride home in order for them to sleep. Students will also need to commit to attending school on Thursday, January 17 and not be able to use the trip as an excuse.

You will need to SECURE your students attendance to this event by returning the permission slip and a check made out to the school with your $25 per student in order to guarantee that they will have a ticket. I MUST have these forms and payment for the trip by the end of this semester, December 21. If you do not turn in your forms and payment, I will start looking for other people to fill those seats so MAKE SURE you turn in your slip early!!!! Also, if you would like to come along on our trip as a chaperon, we have about 5 spots available on a first come first serve basis. Cost for adults is $50.

If you have any further questions about our trip or one of our PRODUCTION TEAMS, please contact Mr. St. Clair.
